In recent years the management of personal data has become a major sector of interest, in continual evolution not only in Europe but worldwide; this is testified by the recent European Regulation 679/2016, already valid in Italy, which will supersede, as of 25 May 2018, the “old” Privacy Code (Legislative Decree 196/2003).


The European Regulation introduces many novelties, as for example the obligation on the part of public administrations and firms that undertake certain activities, to nominate a Data Protection Officer, destined to play a major role in data management.

The Data Protection Officer, also defined as “Privacy Officer”, must have specific competence in the field of personal data protection and an in-depth knowledge of the regulations governing the subject. The Privacy Officer is a company professional with legal competence and IT skills whose main responsibility is to observe, assess and organise the management and processing of personal data (and consequently their protection) within a company, to ensure they are treated legally and appropriately, in compliance with regulations in force.

 
He supplies all the necessary consultancy to plan, monitor and maintain an organised system of personal data management, including the adoption of a series of suitable safety measures aimed at protecting and safeguarding the data and information based resource to ensure a high degree of safety and confidentiality.
